What is a Recreational Therapist?
Certified and qualified professionals that provide treatment services through the use of leisure and recreation activities, to enhance individuals physical, cognitive, emotional, social and leisure development, so they may participate fully and independently in chosen life pursuits. Services also seek to reduce depression, stress and anxiety in their clients and help them build confidence and socialize in their community. https://www.atra-online.com/page/AboutRecTherapy

Requirements to become a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist include a Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited university, a formal clinical internship and passing the national competency exam. The National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) oversees the credentialing process. Several states also require recreational therapists to be licensed within their states.
